LPA Board Meeting January 2026

January 20, 2026
LPA Board Meeting
Via Zoom 5:02 – 5:30 pm

No Pledge of Allegiance

Roll Call — Present: Jen Daly McFadden, Sam Orr, Steven Dodd, Rosanne O’Hara, Nancy Walker, Bill Gibson, Bryan Bentz, Paul Dzurec and Peggy Roberts

Absent: None

Minutes: There were three sets to approve; one monthly and two special meetings.

Rosanne moved to accept the minutes from the monthly board meeting of November 19, 2025.  Bryan seconded. Motion passed without changes.

Steven moved to accept the minutes of the special meeting on December 12, 2025. Sam seconded. Motion passed without changes.

Bill moved to accept the minutes of the special meeting on December 16, 2025. Rosanne seconded. Motion passed without changes.

President’s Report: Lord’s Point lost water briefly when a water main recently broke in the Borough. This was not due to a break in our line but a reduction in pressure. It wouldn’t hurt to boil water until further notice.

In cases like this, we rely on an eblast to inform residents.  If Matt Meyers is not available, we currently have no backup.  We need to find someone who will send these eblasts when Matt is away.

The search for a new fire chief in Stonington Borough is under way and the committee anticipates many good candidates for consideration.  A deputy chief may also be added to the management staff.

The last installment of George Smith’s generous donation has been made. He is working on a small plaque to be placed at Boulder Dock in memory of his father.

Jen will create a job description for a part-time maintenance worker to be shared at the February meeting.

Clerk Report: No report.

Treasurer Report: The 1099 tax forms are being prepared by our accountant and will go out soon. Everything is on track.

There was discussion of the attorney’s fees paid in the Langworthy lawsuit, which amount to $85,000 so far.

Standing Committee Reports

Docks: The rebuild of the catwalk on Boulder Dock should be done by professionals, as it is too dangerous for our volunteers to undertake. Getting more than one bid may be difficult, but Gwenmor will quote the job.

Roads: No report.

Beaches: No report.

Nominating: No report.

Recreation: No report.

Property: No report.

Community House: No report. A new HVAC system is still under consideration but may not be feasible this year given our legal bills.

Insurance: No report.

Fire: No report.

Special Committees

Garden Club: No report.

Website: No report.

Coastal Resilience: No report.

Unfinished business:

James/Oak street wall: Project is moving forward. When designs are ready, a subcommittee review will be conducted, then the permitting process can begin. We are looking at a 2027 construction calendar and we should be prepared for it to be expensive.

In the meantime, a sign is needed to keep people off the wall until it is made safer. Steven agreed to locate one.

Legal Update:  Our attorney has filed for new court dates in the Langworthy case, with the trial date likely in June or November.

Since the board voted down the last settlement offer, all members should come to the next meeting prepared with their ideas for an offer the board can accept. Ideas should consider that this case will likely cost an additional $60,000 or more, if it goes to trial.

A library of documents pertaining to the lawsuit will be available for board member review through Jen.

In addition, the board will vote on new members of the litigation committee at the February meeting.

New Business:
The next meeting is scheduled for February 17.
Peggy moved to adjourn, Bill seconded.  Motion passed at 5:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Peggy Roberts
Clerk
