Meeting Attendees:
Joan Dodd, Pam Norwood, Betsy Lawrence, State Lawrence, Mary Richardson, Maureen Brennan, Mark Banfield, Suzanne Walsh, Jim Walsh, Rosanne O’Hara, Liz O’Hara, Edie Morren, Ashley Shawyer, and Eliza Reed. Absent Members: Anne Marie Kavulla.
Agenda/Points of Discussion:
Plans for a Pumpkin Patch
Jim Walsh will inquire with Sharon Osga Dugger about her interest/thoughts in organizing a Pumpkin Patch.
Location: To be determined—options include the far left or back corner of the garden.
Pumpkin Nursery: Discussion of creating a pumpkin nursery using metal garden beds (Pam Norwood).
Future events discussed for the fall in the garden including a “lantern night” with Pumpkin carving (Eliza Reed) Timing tbd: Columbus Day Weekend?
Block Party Pollinator Table
Table Features:
QR Code for donations (to support Adirondack chairs, future plans for the 2nd quadrant of the garden, etc.).
Pollinator Garden Newsletter available for distribution (Betsy Lawrence).
Pollinator Plant Examples for display and discussion-“Friend or Foe” Pollinators you may find in your garden etc.
Pins (created by Joan Dodd) for promotion.
Giveaways to encourage engagement and support.
Adirondack Chairs – By Donation
Plans for Purchasing:
Explore buying Adirondack chairs wholesale through potential vendors like Dutch Crafters.
Consider bulk purchase options and setting adequate price to raise funds for the Pollinator Garden.
Next Steps:
Further research to be conducted on wholesale vendors and pricing.
Discussion on potential profit margin and fundraising goals.
Chairs will have plaque options for names of those that donate.
Ideas in Motion / Designs to be Further Discussed Prior to Block Party
Logo/Branding for LP Pollinator Garden:
Logo Ideas: “Let it Bee”
Contributors: State Lawrence and Will Reed to collaborate on design ideas.
Further discussion will take place to finalize the logo before the Block Party.
Upcoming Pollinator Garden Events
July 5th:
Grand Opening of the Pollinator Garden.
Lead: Joan Dodd to coordinate.
July 9th:
Pollinator Games and Rock Painting in the garden.
Lead: Mark Banfield to organize. Further discussion to be had on types of rocks/stepping stones/mosaic pavers etc.
July 19th:
Block Party Table (see above for details)
August 6th:
Bee Houses Activity—discussion of materials and activities.
Leads: Betsy Lawrence and Mary Richardson to finalize supplies.
Pollinator Garden Next Steps:
Rain Barrel/ Watering
Rain Barrel Flower Painting:
Ideas to be discussed with Ruth Dzurec regarding a rain barrel flower painting activity for kids. (Rosanne O’Hara)
Garden Watering Sign-Ups:
Discussion that sign-ups may be for weekly watering shifts. Participants to use best discretion regarding weather/rainfall throughout the week. (Rosanne O’Hara backup waterer when needed)
Water Tank/Backpack: The water tank or backpack will be dropped off at the next volunteer’s house at the end of the previous week.
Sign-Up Schedule: Final details and schedule to be finalized and disseminated by Eliza Reed.
*Rain Barrel to be refilled by Ashley and Quentin Shawyer.
Teen Scavenger Hunt-Potentially include questions/activities for Pollinators “find a pollinator” etc. (Anne-Marie Kavulla?)
Flower Seed Paper/Pins: Joan Dodd to research
Garden beds/metal beds: payments/checks still needed to be paid to “Lords Point Pollinator Garden” (Ashley Shawyer collecting)
